Company Description

  • You will be accountable for the overall Operational Performance of Three’s Private Network, Wholesale and Business services across Network & IT applications and infrastructure estate delivered through its external service partners, technology suppliers and internal technical teams.
  • Accountable that all IT services are reliable, scalable, and secure, by demonstrate exceptional expertise in the areas of IT application & Infrastructure services engineering.  We are looking an Engineer with experience in developing processes, tools, and automation in distributed systems suitable for production environments. Balancing time across automating operations for our growing footprint of deployments, building self-service products to empower internal customers, and increasing the reliability and scalability of our services with application and system level improvements.
  • Accountability for the reliability of our production assets - identify, manage and resolve dependencies and risks
  • Decide on priorities to Optimize the evolution steps needed - taking into consideration demand from developers as well as from operations engineers
  • Ownership of Service success through the lifecycle by ensuring what needs to be monitored and act upon performance indicators which reflects experience and stability.

Job Description

  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post mortems on services focused on improving the availability, scalability, latency, security and efficiency of our internal or customer-facing services
  • Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of a platform from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement.
  • Aid partners in maintaining systems once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health through preventative maintenance.
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.

Qualifications

  • Must have exceptional IT, ICT Operations or Development background
  • Understanding of basic Internet infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, LDAP, server virtualization, server monitoring, cloud services (AWS S3/EC2/CloudFront/Steps... or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated history in automating operations processes via services and tools.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration, testing methodologies, TDD and agile development methodologies with operations.
  • Fluency in one or more high-level programming languages like Java, Python, Go, Ruby
  • Fluency in  Linux, SQL 
  • Experience using Splunk and Dynatrace or similar monitoring tools would be an advantage

Additional Information

  • The salary range for this role starts at £40,960, the exact salary will differ by job and experience
  • A performance based annual bonus & an additional 'flexible allowance' to spend on additional benefits, topping up your pension, or to be added to your salary.
  • Hybrid working between your home (2-3 days a week) and our brand new Reading HQ office at Green Park (2-3 days a week)

At Three we have a hybrid working arrangement in place as standard for office based employees, where employees work from a mix of office based location and working from their home in the UK to carry on their role.

Excluding retail, core hours at Three are between 10:00 and 16:00, with operating hours between 08:00 & 18:30. This allows employees to have a start time between 08:00 and 10:00 and finish time between 16:00 and 18:30.
